For a very long time only religious and magic themes were represented in the visual arts.
Later symbols of wealth such as portraits and still lives became accepted as worthwhile subjects.
Then it was historical scenes , and later still everyday life and people.
Pop Art grabbed the images of industry and consumption.
And finally artists realized that the image of written or printed words can be a fascinating subject. Giuseppe Romeo started his career as a painter exploring the crude but potent images and writings of graffiti.
So when he got his hands on this ancient lithographic press he transformed it into some kind of a paint brush for his “word images”.
Huge pressure is used in printing and becomes an adequate expression for the anger one feels at the ambivalence of words.
